The Shift highlights women’s stories through the lens of impact. It hopes to contextualize history and inspire action.

The Shift:

Who are three women that inspire you?

Lola:

Choosing 3 is kind of impossible, so I chose 6:

My mom

Tara Jackson (the dance captain at Hadestown Broadway)

Michelle Zauner (lead singer of the band Japanese Breakfast and author of Crying in H Mart),

Carissa Stewart (my awesome manager)

Jazmine Brown (a content creator who focuses on sustainability)

Chanel Miller (author of Know My Name and other works)

The Shift:

What is the legacy you hope to leave behind as a changemaker and leader in your industry?

Lola:

It is hard to think about or determine what your legacy will be at age 22, and even to think about yourself as a leader in an industry that you are still learning so much about. I do hope to make art that makes people feel, that makes people think, that makes people turn to community and have important conversations. I want to tell stories that women can relate to and feel are about them. Stories that girls and young women can point to now and in their futures and say, “I saw myself in this, and it inspired me to create, or it stuck with me”. I hope we continue to see stories about women, queer stories, BIPOC stories being told – and being told by the people that they are about – in the way that they want to tell them.
